Budweiser APAC Signed Green Power Purchase Agreements for Three Breweries in China, Achieving RE-100 Ahead of Schedule

Release date:June 10, 2021

Climate change is a pressing issue that affects our business across the globe and the communities where we operate. To achieve our Sustainability Goal for climate action, is to transition our operations to 100% renewable electricity (RE-100) and reduce our carbon emissions by 25% across our value chain by 2025.

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved another milestone. As of June 10th 2021, three of our breweries - Jinshibai, Jinzhou and Yanji signed onto the green power purchase agreement, achieving RE-100 ahead of schedule. In addition to the purchase of renewable electricity at our breweries, we have also implemented various measures to improve energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions in our production and operations. We have replaced coal boilers with biomass boilers and installed a biogas collection system to recover biogas to produce steam that can be reused in the brewing process. This ensures that we are on track with our ambition to be carbon neutral by 2022.

Ziyang, Kunming and Wuhan have achieved RE-100 at the beginning of the year. Joining Jinshibai, Jinzhou and Yanji breweries, the renewable electricity rate in Budweiser APAC will improve by 7%, and bringing the total number of breweries to 6. This lays laying a solid foundation for Budweiser APAC's carbon-neutral ambition.

Our dream is to have all our breweries achieving RE-100 by 2025, which reinforces our commitment to 100% renewable power for our operations. As a result, this will help play a pivotal role in delivering a low carbon economy that aligns with the Chinese authority’s strategic objective of achieving carbon-neutral by 2060.

We will continue to evolve our thinking on how we can further reduce emissions across our value chain through innovation and partnership, creating a better world!
