Sustainability IS our business at Budweiser APAC and we are working hard towards our publicly-announced 2025 Sustainability Goals. While benefited by the natural resources from the earth, we consider climate action as one of our top priorities. We keep on making continuous efforts to explore innovative solutions and technologies to increase the usage of electricity from renewable sources. While we continue to install on-site solar panels as much as practicable, procuring offsite electricity from a renewable source is a big part of our strategy to ensure we can meet our climate action goal – to ensure 100% of our purchased electricity from renewable sources by the end of 2025.
In 2020, Budweiser China Ziyang Brewery became the first brewery in Budweiser APAC and China’s beer industry that 100% powered by renewable electricity through Direct Power Purchase Agreement (“DPPA”). Now we are proud to announce that another two – Wuhan and Kunming breweries, keep the momentum to achieve 100% purchased renewable electricity through DPPA in 2021. Electricity used by Wuhan brewery is 100% from Hubei Qingjiang Hydropower Station. The on-site solar panels at Kunming brewery contribute over 24% electricity from a renewable source, and the rest of electricity purchased are from several renewable sources including hydropower, solar and wind, which is certified by power distribution company. Therefore, in 2021, total annual electricity consumption of the two breweries, around 38M kwh, will be from renewable sources, which means an additional 8% of Budweiser China annual electricity consumption have been changed to clean energy sources.

This is a significant step forward towards our renewable electricity goal. As a pioneer in climate action, Budweiser APAC will keep working together with renewable power generation and distribution companies and other influential corporate users to proactively facilitate the development of a sustainable electricity transaction market.
