OBC selected 16 award winning works, submitted by the public through the ‘Water & Human Illustration Contest.’

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the award ceremony was held online. Officials from OBC, Korea Green Foundation, and award winners all joined and shared their remarks online.

The OBC CEO award was given to illustrator Shin Seung Hyun, who portrayed the ocean as a mother’s womb, because, it beautifully shows that every life begins from water. For instance, the amniotic fluid is made out of water and that is where the lives of humans, animals, and other livings begin.

The Korea Green Foundation Award was given to illustrator Son Hae Sung’s ‘Free-er than Anyone Else,’ which depicts a disabled swimmer swimming freely like a dolphin as soon as entering the water. The Juries’ Award was given to ‘Thank you Water’ by illustrator Jeong Da Eun, who expressed the message in the form of a calendar exemplifying that we always need water in our daily lives.

A total of 2,260 illustrations were submitted during submission period (Oct.12~Nov.11) under three themes: Water & Living, Water & Life, Water & Job. Professional judges including famous illustrator, ‘grim_b’ selected the final 16 award winning illustrations.

The 16 award winning works will be displayed in one of the art galleries in Seoul, in commemoration of World Water Day 2021. Also, one illustration, selected from 16 award winning illustrations, will be printed on Stella Artois Chalice, which will be released in celebration of World Water Day 2021.

‘Water & Human Illustration Contest’ has been running to raise awareness to the public regarding the importance of water. This year’s contest was the 3rd annual contest under the ‘Water and Human’ theme. In 2018, it was the ‘Water & Human Film Festival’, Water & Human Photo Contest in 2019, and Water & Human Illustration Contest in 2020.

An official stated, the public’s interest and passion to publicize the importance of water is definitely high, by seeing over 2,000 works of illustrations submitted to this Contest.”
