Last month, our Budweiser Brewing Company APAC team unveiled a newly decorated Sustainability Meeting Room in their Shanghai Office. All the materials and decorations that we used for the room are made of agiowood – an innovative material in which recycled rice husk replaces the usage of real wood.
Agiowood is produced by Shianco Home Technology, one of the 15 teams participating in our 2020 AB InBev 100+ Accelerator Cohort. Currently in its second year of the program, the 100+ Accelerator hosts and provides funding to start-ups to solve challenges designed to create a more sustainable world for all and creates solutions for some of the most pressing environmental and social challenges of our time.
Shianco Home Technology Co. Ltd. was founded in 2013 and has always been focusing on the development of innovative and sustainable material, with an intention to replace wood in the products they produce. Our Sustainability Meeting Room is one of the pilots that Shianco began working on with Budweiser China after it was selected into the second cohort of 100+ Accelerator.
The raw material of agiowood is rice husk, which would otherwise be considered waste from our suppliers. Shianco provides us with a close-loop solution that supports our journey from waste to wellbeing. It uses the rice husk from our suppliers to produce the agiowood that decorates the meeting room, including the floor, walls, ceiling, table, and chairs. We are not only able to save more trees for finding a wood alternative, but we are also able help our suppliers decrease their carbon emissions since they no longer need to burn the rice husk to dispose of it.
In addition to the Sustainability Meeting room in the Shanghai office, Shianco is also working on designing part of the Wenzhou Brewery, where more agiowood products will be used.
