OBC signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) with a food startup RE:harvest, a new local venture company specializing in food upcycling. Food upcycling refers to the rebirth of high value-added products by utilizing byproducts naturally produced from food manufacturing process.
Under this agreement, two companies will work together to develop and commercialize simple replacement of foods such as energy bars, granola, and cereals through upcycling. Energy bars made by RE:harvest using sikhye(sweet rice drink) byproducts, have already been recognized as a viable product, exceeding the target amount of funding by more than 2,000%, two times, on the cloud funding platform, Wadiz.
OBC participated in the 4th Global Startup Meetup Program held by the Seoul Business Agency (SBA) and the Center for Creative Economy and Innovation (CCEI) in November of last year, where OBC first interacted with RE:harvest and eventually formed a strategic alliance based on a win-win strategy.
An official from OBC stated, “The signing of the agreement has laid the foundation for developing and commercializing various food, such as energy bars, granola, and cereal using beer byproduct and based on win-win cooperation with local start-up venture companies, we hope that it will contribute to solving environmental and social issues.”
RE:harvest is also creating social values by employing the underprivileged and disabled to work in the product packaging and quality check lines in manufacturing.
