Today is June 5th, which is also the 49th World Environmental Day (WED), echoing the theme “Act for A Beautiful China”, Bud APAC convened the “Renewable Energy Bringing A Better Future” E-talk. This special E-talk gathered relevant reputed experts to discuss renewable energy’s multi-energy complementarity and high-efficiency utilization. Moreover, on the E-talk, Bud APAC showcased its milestone breakthroughs regarding renewable energy.
The event today was greatly supported and actively participated by all sectors of society. He Yong, Executive Vice Secretary General of China Alcoholic Drinks Association, experts from reputed partners such as the World Resources Institute (WRI), the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and Shanghai Yushuo Energy Technology Co., Ltd, ManCom from Bud APAC and Bud China, the colleagues around China and nationwide media gathered together on the E-talk to talk freely about new opportunities of corporate sustainability.
During the event, Jan Craps, CEO and Co-Chair of Bud APAC announced three magnificent achievements that Bud APAC has gained, which are:
1. Ziyang brewery is our first brewery in China using 100% renewable electricity, which is also the first to achieve this goal in the Chinese beery industry.
2. We apply second-life battery energy storage system for the first time globally in SUQ and FOS breweries.
3. Bud APAC committed to “using 100% renewable energy to brew by 2025”; we looking to complete 15-16 more before 2020 ends, which is about half of its breweries in China. At that time, 59% of Budweiser will be brewed with renewable electricity at that time.
He Yong, Executive Vice Secretary General of China Alcoholic Drinks Association and Secretary General of Beer Branch, commented that, as an industry benchmark, Bud APAC has not only been leading the product upgrading, but also spared no efforts to develop and explore renewable energy.
During the event, Jan Clysner, VP of Procurement & Sustainability Bud APAC signed a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) remotely with its partner, a representative corporate in Ziyang, Sichuan, and co-witness the site of SUQ breweries’ second-life battery energy storage program online. Jan Clysner commented: “The introduction of VPPA is our new breakthrough and attempt to advance renewable energy programs. In the future, we will continue to bring in more external stakeholders, develop diversified patterns to utilize renewable energy, and explore new opportunities to land a green future for the beer industry.” Reputed experts from RMI and CDP voiced their strong approval of Bud APAC’s innovative measures: “In the post-COVID era, the breakthrough by Bud APAC provides positive references for other business players to follow and act on.”

Employees from 29 breweries around China also joined the E-talk online and showed lightening posters, which were then generated as a poster to cheer for corporates using renewable electricity.
