OBC’s Icheon brewery announced on the 12th that it has been awarded the Grand Prize from the Minister of the Environment for the “2019 Best Practices for Recovery and Return of Empty Vessels” contest.
Hosted by the Korea Resource Circulation Service Agency (KORA) and sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, the contest was designed to raise interest in empty container deposit systems and promote the use of empty containers. Best cases and practices that contributed to the recovery and return of empty containers for domestic producers and wholesalers and retailers were selected and awarded.
OBC’s Icheon brewery received top marks and won the grand prize in the ‘Producer’ category for drastically improving the route of beer bottle recovery and increased performance of collecting empty bottles in 2019. The previous route for empty bottle recovery followed 3 stages from empty bottle dealers, to stores, to the brewery; however the new route incorporates giving empty bottle dealers the choice of sending empty bottles to the brewery directly. If an empty bottle dealer directly returns empty bottles to the beer brewery, the brewery pays for the transportation costs, which will lower empty bottle dealer transporting costs and significantly increase the recovery rate of empty bottles.
“We have steadily made efforts to establish a win-win system with empty bottles and increase the use of reusable bottles by improving the return and recovery routes for empty bottles. As environmental management is the core ideology of the company, we will do our best to recycle resources and help preserve the environment.” said OBC spokesman.
